Chief Thon implored with his comrade headmen to put the blueprint into action in order to ease certain parents who were impotent to reimburse the bulky bride price of the burden.
Ruweng Regional leaders have decided to reduce bride prices to 10 cattle. The chiefs lowered the number of cows required for marriage from 20 to 10 during the three-day community assembly in Panriang town.
Area Chief Thon Bol addressed the group during the conference and stated that the goal of the resolution was to make it easier for young people to have a respectable marriage. He continued that most families have been impacted by the current economic climate, forcing some to produce additional cows and money for weddings.
Thon pleaded with his fellow chiefs to put the policy into action in order to relieve some parents who were unable to pay the hefty bride costs of the burden. He encouraged the Ruweng government to assist in putting local chiefs’ approved customary laws into effect.
I am requesting that the leadership expedite the creation of the RAA Constitution and incorporate the resolutions, he said. The conference, according to Stefano Wieu de Mialek, Chief Administrator of Ruweng, was intended to discuss problems impacting the administration in an effort to find solutions.
He was pleased with the chiefs’ decision, especially the lower bride price. Wieu vowed to put up a lot of effort to see that the resolutions are enacted and carried out. A suitable technique to run the administrative area was among the topics covered at the conference. Additionally, the communities established a secondary school education as the prerequisite for the job of county commissioner.
The provision of services in all locations within the Ruweng Administrative Area was also decided upon as a means of distributing resources within the area fairly across all the counties. Additionally, the communities determined that all traditional leaders will be chosen by the community rather than being appointed by presidential decree.
