After a long devastating civil war against the then Khartoum government, South Sudan could be geared towards making the same mistake of welcoming a cosmopolitan society. After all the suffering of the 21 years of civil war, what is independence if economically, and socially the citizens of this nation are still dwelling in poverty, famine, & poor health services?
The sad reality is that different foreigners control and run a particular line of business, or influence some political decisions, if not socially mixed, and influence the social fabrics of cultures of this great nation.
Economic Effects.
It is either one group of foreign nationals or the other owning a chain of distribution of goods and services subjecting the indigenous to purchase at higher prices in their market. For instance, Ethiopians and Eritrean nationals are predominantly in control of hotels and the hospitality industry in and outside juba.
The Somali nationals are in control of petroleum products plus the forex bureau businesses. Ugandans are firm suppliers of farm produce & small-scale businesses. Kenyans are in the non-governmental organization controlling the sector as they award tenders to their interest. This is a common phenomenon nationwide rendering South Sudanese citizens jobless, especially in a competitive environment that does not provide enough opportunities.
Social Effects.
Most youths of South Sudan have been exposed to negative lifestyles that have forced them to compromise their African social fabric, For example, the youths now practice immoral behaviors like commercial sexual work, Indecent dressing codes, alcoholism, and bleaching among others, Unfortunately, all the above have got negative side effects on our society. Girls look for men who can provide for them to meet their demands, and the few working-class take advantage of that as a result of high unemployment rates.
