Another South Sudanese National MP Caught In A Corruption Scandal.
Juba Gossip has received and exclusive information from a source privy to the national security service, about a national Member of Parliament, named Hon. Tong Deng Kuol. Hon Tong is currently in the custody of the national security service, economic division.
Hon. Kuol is accused of establishing a company that has been scamming the government, using multiple sham companies. By the time he was caught, the MP and his group of companies has walked away with a thundering forty–two Million United States Dollars.
It is alleged that the money was remitted by Central Bank, South Sudan, to the company owned by the National MP through Equity Bank. Asked how the Member of Parliament was able to walk away with such a huge amount of money without due diligence, the source revealed that this scam may have been a coordinated corruption within the institutions tasked with keeping the national resources, such as the money.
The source could not reveal names but says the Central Bank approved this payment to Hon. Tong Deng Kuol, who in turn shared the money with other “earmarked for benefit” companies and forex bureaus. “With these findings”, says the source, “heads will roll; and this shall be a serious deterrent to those playing with the resources of the nation.
According to Chapter 3 of the national security service act, 2014, the national security service has “broader powers” to summon, arrest and investigate criminal cases related to offenses that endanger the national interest of the country.
The source revealed that the suspect is under the custody of the National Security Service’s Department of Economics Division. Attempts to speak with the National Security Spokesperson over the matter were not fruitful, as his phones were either off or could not be reached. Juba Gossip is following this story as it unfolds.
