South Sudanese traders now have the option of picking their goods out of the ports of
Mombasa, Nairobi, or Naivasha. This comes after President Ruto had a private
discussion with President Salva Kiir on Saturday in his Juba office.
According to president Ruto, Kenya is eager to make it simpler for products to travel to
South Sudan by giving South Sudanese traders the freedom to choose the location
where they want to pick up their goods without restrictions.
President Ruto added that in order to lower the cost of doing business between
residents of the two countries, Kenya will give South Sudan land in Mombasa on which
to construct a dry port.
The Kenyan president was commended by President Salva Kiir for abolishing the
limitations that made it difficult for South Sudanese merchants to clear their
commodities.
This was following President Ruto’s one-day official visit to South Sudan. Among
others, he was accompanied by Kipchumba Murkomen, cabinet secretary for roads and
infrastructure and was also met by vice president Riek Machar at the press briefing.
