Just after the visit of the Kenyan head of state to Juba last week HE Dr. William Samoei Ruto assured his counterpart and the citizens of south Sudan in juba that Kenya will allocate 10 hectors of land to south Sudan for the construction of a port in Mombasa and will go ahead to implement a treaty that was signed in 2019 by his predecessor president Uhuru Kenyatta and the president of South Sudan to import commercial goods through the Mombasa port in Kenya.
This statement was confirmed by the South Sudan Chairman Of the Freight Forwarders Association (SSFFA) witnessed by Juba Gossip news. In his statement, the Chairman of (SSFFA) cited that Kenya and South Sudan agreed to lift directives by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, to transport all cargo belonging to South Sudan from Mombasa by SGR.
We thank our regional brothers who raised voices of concern regarding various challenges the South Sudanese Bussiness Community faces along the Northern Corridor transport route as well as hikes in tariff charges levied on logistics and goods coming into South Sudan through the Kenyan port.
Kenya had revised the decision, due to the fact that South Sudan made the decision of transporting her Goods via the port of Djibouti alternatively.
It would have course Kenya 1.1 billion loss in revenues and that would have seen transportation of Cargo belonging to South Sudan being diverted to other African neighbors blessed with a port like us said the Kenyan authorities.
