On Saturday, four pro-government politicians in the county of Migori went on a helicopter blitz to mobilize locals against Azimio-organized protests.
On the mission, Mathias Robi of Kuria West and Marwa Kitayama of Kuria East were joined by rebels from the Orange Democratic Movement, Mark Nyamita of Uriri, and Paul Abuor of Rongo.
The four arrived in two helicopters which made an extra trip to ferry three local MCAs as they led a funds to drive at Jordan SDA Church in Kaler Ward, Nyatike.
The event was graced by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and Interior PS Raymond Omollo.
The team called on Kenyans to keep away from Monday demonstrations planned by Raila Odinga with the legislators insisting the county is ready to work with the government including hosting President William Ruto next Friday.
“Politics is over and as government, we will work with all Kenyans irrespective of their voting pattern. We will push through the development agenda,” Koskei said.
Omollo said they will provide security to peaceful demonstrators and called on the Opposition to avoid the destruction of property or causing mayhem to other Kenyans.
“Kenyans will get development through elected leaders, we believe in the rule of law which we will apply in all demonstrations,” Omollo said.
The four legislators said they respect Raila, but it’s time for him to know that the region will not remain in the Opposition at the expense of development.
“We have leaders who should have come here and asked about roads, and employment opportunities but instead they are out calling for demonstrations. We respect Raila but we will not go to the streets,” Nyamita said.
Abuor said as a legislator he has a manifesto that he said he will deliver to voters saying he will work with Ruto and the government until he realizes it.
Kitayama said if Raila continues with the call for demonstrations, he will hand over the 2027 presidency comfortably to Ruto while Robi said they will continue to work closely with more Opposition legislators.
“During the handshake, Raila moved in and showed the Opposition the benefit of working with the government, now he should not be afraid when his legislators are coming for individual handshakes,” Robi said.
Their sentiments were echoed by North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba, West Kanyamkago MCA Peter Mijungu, and East Kanyamkago MCA Norman Ogolla who were ferried in the rally using a chopper.
But during the function, three ODM MCAs led by Calvince Seko, Suna Central MCA Samuel Obrien, and Wiga MCA John Kelly walked out of the funds drive after saying they are united under Raila and will push for demonstrations.
They walked out saying they could not sit through a meeting where Raila was being insulted.
“We are firmly behind Raila and we are united as Luo. On Monday, we will be in the streets demonstrating fully. We just want our son Omollo to ensure that police don’t kill us,” Obrien said.
